CURRENT MSU GRADUATE STUDENT
GRADUATE ADMISSION PROCEDURE
FALL SEMESTER, 2017


The Department of Statistics and Probability will begin accepting graduate applications for Fall 2017 on October 1, 2016.
The application for admission, application fee, and all required supporting documents should be received no later than February 1, 2017.
For full consideration of fellowship opportunities, applications should be received by December 1, 2016.

Current MSU Graduate Students
in the College of Natural Science

A complete application consists of:
  1. Three letters of recommendation are required.
  2. Advanced Mathematics Profile
  3. Statement of Purpose
  4. Official transcripts of college work, undergraduate and graduate, including diplomas and certificates. These can usually be obtained from the Office of the Registrar, 250 Hannah Administration Building.
The above items may be turned in hard copy at C415 Wells Hall. Letters of recommendation and transcripts should be sealed (with signature of recommender on envelope flap).

*Up to date GRE and TOEFL scores may be requested on an individual basis.


Current MSU Graduate Students
in Colleges outside of Natural Science

A complete application consists of:
  1. MSU Graduate Application at http://grad.msu.edu/apply/online.aspx
    Our majors are:
    (3871) MS Applied Statistics; (3875) MS Statistics; (3877) PhD Statistics
  2. Application to the Department of Statistics and Probability, which you complete by logging into http://www.admissions.msu.edu/gradportal using your applicant id and password issued when you completed the MSU Graduate Application.
  3. Three letters of recommendation are required and these are included in the Graduate Portal also. There is a place for you to list the name and email of your recommenders and they will be contacted and asked to upload a letter for you. Do not have hard copy letters of recommendation mailed. They must be submitted through the Graduate Portal.
  4. Advanced Mathematics Profile (Upload in Graduate Portal)
  5. Statement of Purpose (Upload in Graduate Portal)
  6. Official transcripts of all college work (undergraduate and graduate), including diplomas and certificates. These are to be sent to our Department directly from the school(s) which you attended. You can obtain these from the Office of the Registrar, Room 250 Administration Bldg.
*Up to date GRE and TOEFL scores may be requested on an individual basis.

Applications are accepted for Fall Semester only. We do not accept applications for Spring Semester.
