1. Ecology

Project: Dynamics of the host-parasite system Daphnia dentifera-Metschnikowia [funded]

Description: This study focuses on the ecological interaction between a common microparasites and its Daphnia host species, and the consequences to coexisting zooplankton and their phytoplankton prey.

Meghan Duffy, Kellogg Biological Station and Department of Zoology (graduate student)

Carla Caceres, Department of Animal Biology, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

Sally MacIntyre, Marine Science Institute, University of California at Santa Barbara

Spencer Hall, Kellogg Biological Station and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (post doc)

2. Plant Biology

Project 1: Plastidic dicarboxylate translocators in plant ammonia assimilation [funded]

Description: This study investigates the genetics of the transport activities involved in the process of ammonia assimilation in plants.

Project 2: Mining of large genomic data sets to discover novel gene functions

Description: This study explores large genomic data sets through data mining methods and aims to develop statistical methods to aid in the discovery of gene function. A future goal is to integrate these methods in a relational database.
