Outreach

The Statistical Genetics Lab (SGL) actively pursues opportunities for reaching out to undergraduate students, K-12 students and teachers, to show them the role of statistics in biological research and the power of statistics in solving real-world biological questions, to inspire their curiosity and educate them at the interface between statistics and genetics/genomics. Below is a list of some activities:

• Nov. 12, 2008: Dr. Cui gave a talk to first year undergraduate students at MSU titled "Statistical genetics: the science of interdiciplinary research", as part of MSU "Talks to Emerging Scholars" activity.

Our lab plays an active role in training faculty, postdoc and students and bring them the latest developments in design and analysis of genetic and genomic data with cutting edge experimental practices. Below is a list of some activities:

• May 2007: Dr. Cui gave a short course titled "Introduction to statistical genetics" at the Center for Statistical Training and Consulting workshop held at MSU.

• May 2007: Dr. Cui gave a short course titled "SNP data analysis and haplotype inference in human association study" at the Computational Genomics Workshop held at MSU.

• May 2008: Dr. Cui organized a workshop titled "Statistical Genetics and Genomics Workshop" held at MSU, and gave a short course titled "Statistical design and analysis of human genetic data".
