Best Student Posters Award

Fellowships from The Graduate School, MSU, of $500 will be awarded for the three best student posters. In case of a tie for the third and fourth place, each will receive $250.

Eligibility:
All MSU graduate students currently enrolled in a degree granting program (PhD or MS) who are first authors of the poster presentation and thus contributed to the design, analysis and interpretation of the analysis.

Evaluation Criteria:
Committee members evaluate papers anonymously, scoring them on a scale of 1-10 based on:
1: Originality (70%): focused problem, innovative solutions, rigorous methodologies, contributions to statistics in applications
2: Presentation (30%): precise text, logical flow, good readability, excellent graphics (if applicable)

Procedure:
At the time of submission of the title students will indicate whether they would like to be considered for the award and acknowledge that they fulfill the eligibility requirements. Submission deadline September 6, 2013.
The committee consists of one chair and two members. The committee members are MSU faculty and are not advisors or mentors of any eligible student.
Committee members evaluate posters anonymously at the time of the event and will meet electronically on October 2, the day after the event.
Scores will be tallied and averaged by the committee chair. Awards will be given to the top three candidates. In case of a tie in 3rd and 4th place, the 3rd award will be split between these two.

Award:
The Students will be informed of having received an award by email. Their names will be forwarded to Karen Klomparens, Dean of the Graduate School who will arrange for a fellowship. The funds will be credited directly to their student account.

Raffles

MSU students who have registered online by September 27, 2013 and who are not eligible for student poster awards, are eligible for raffle prizes. The recipients will be drawn by a computerized randomization algorithm. You have to claim your prize in person at the time of the drawings or the prize will go to the next person chosen.
